THE POP GROUP – Funky Punky Freaky Reggae Party in Belgium…

liveblglo

THE POP GROUP – N9 Club – Eeklo, Belgium – 4 February 2017

popgroup2

THE POP GROUP, the frantic post-punk funksters from Bristol are only one of the
few bands that really have, after reuniting many years after they first formed (1977), something challenging, inspiring and perspicacious to say in caustic words and in compelling sound. Their two comeback albums in two years, CITIZEN ZOMBIE (2015)
and HONEYMOON ON MARS (2016) are among the best alternative music you’ll find. Giant frontman Mark Stewart still is a razor-sharp, political & social observer with an inimitable, narrative and at times creepy voice & the underground legends still create a unique blend of jagged & highly danceable ecstasy many young, artists would sell their soul and mother-in-law for. If you’re a well-documented, lifetime fan of the band and Stewart’s Maffia project I’m sure I can’t tell you something new about them. But if you
never heard of these sonic outlaws I invite you to this Funky Punky Freaky Reggae set (reproduced here on Spotify) that those imperishable prostitutes played last Saturday in Belgium. Open your ears and your unprejudiced mind, get out of your straitjacket, move your furniture to make room for your own private dance floor and activate your limbs ’cause you will need them all. Start the party right now, right here…

THE POP GROUP – New Single ‘WAR INC.’ In Aid Of ‘MEDECINS SANS FRONTIERES’…

Vibes that thrills us in a way we want to scream out loud…

shoutout

THE POP GROUP have released anti-war song WAR INC. from their latest album HONEYMOON ON MARS – their second LP since the still highly relevant post-punk veterans reformed – as a single in aid of Medecins Sans Frontiers / Doctors Without Borders to help with their incredible work in war zones throughout the world. In 2015 they provided over a million consultations across war torn regions of Asia and Africa,
and also provide nutrition & psychological help to hundreds of thousands of vulnerable, innocent civilians. The protest song was produced by Hank Shocklee, hip-hop wizard of Public Enemy. Here’s the audio clip…

THE POP GROUP – Intriguing New Video For Cruel Brittania Single ‘LITTLE TOWN’…

TrackDay1

26 December 2016

popgroup2

LITTLE TOWN is the 2nd single from cutting new Honeymoon On Mars album by the former late 70s/early 80s frantic Bristol funksters THE POP GROUP. Only one of the few bands that really has, after reuniting many years after they first formed, something challenging, highly inspiring and compellingly perspicacious to say in caustic words
and in absorbing sound. Douglas Hart directed the clip and visualized optimally the
song’s content: “The video attempts to capture the feel of towns beyond the big metropolises. Towns that suffer most from the brutal post capital culture we live in now.” The band’s riveting frontman and biting voice Mark Stewart added: “Doug has documented Cruel Britannia, the hidden truly frightening little Britain. Perhaps the real battle for Britain has truly begun.” Seems like we’ll have a post-Brexit walk here…
