NEW ORDER – 7th Album ‘GET READY’ Released 20 Years Ago

26 August 2021

Band: NEW ORDER (Manchester)
Active: 1980–1993, 1998–2007, 2011–present
10 studio albums (so far)

Anniversary album:GET READY
Released: 27 August 2001 / 20 years ago today

Pitchfork: “All told, Get Ready is a pretty solid effort from a veteran band
that really has nothing left to prove. They’ve managed to bring together a
consistently rewarding set of songs and added yet another great album to
their already impressive canon. Unfortunately, the songwriting at times reveals
scattered holes, and the songs can draw on for too long. But if nothing else, Get
Ready proves that New Order are still capable of putting out an enjoyable album.
Let’s just hope they don’t stay away for eight more years before they give us the
next one.”
Full review here. Score: 7.5/10.

Turn Up The Volume: 8 years after their rather boring Ibiza dance
albums NO returned to their electrical pop best with feel-good tunes.

Single This! NEW ORDER

6 July 2021

‘World In Motion’ by NEW ORDER

The theme song for England’s national football team’s 1990 FIFA World Cup campaign. It features a rap sequence by England footballer John Barnes, additional vocals by several members of the whole team, and comedian Keith Allen, who had co-written the lyric. It’s New Order‘s only No 1 in the UK

We’re singing for England (England)
Arrivederci, it’s one on one…

I’m sure England’s world will be in drunk motion
when the team becomes EURO 2020 Champion.

This Day In 1983 Was A BLUE MONDAY…

7 March 2021

Band: NEW ORDER (Manchester, UK)
Active: 1980–1993, 1998–2007, 2011–present

Single: BLUE MONDAY
B-sides: The Beach (7″) and Thieves Like Us (12″)

Released: 7 March 1983 – 38 years ago today
Score: #1 on UK indie chart / #4 on US dance chart / most sold 12″ ever.

Gillian Gilbert (keyboards) revealed in 2013: “The synthesizer melody is slightly
out of sync with the rhythm. This was an accident. It was my job to program the entire
song from beginning to end, which had to be done manually, by inputting every note.
I had the sequence all written down on loads of A4 paper Sellotaped together the length
of the recording studio, like a huge knitting pattern. But I accidentally left a note out,
which skewed the melody.

How does it feel
When you treat me like you do

Happy B. HOOKY!

13 February 2021

(photo by Turn Up The Volume!)

If there’s one bass player you always recognize when he pulls his strings it’s PETER HOOK also known as HOOKY. The man who created a sound that was fundamental and essential for Joy Division as well as for New Order. The man who plays his beloved instrument as if it has six strings instead of four. Hooky‘s resonance is unique and ageless as he still proves, for years now, with his band The Light, on stages around the globe.

Today is his 65th birthday! Happy B. Hooky!

Let’s celebrate with these four standouts…

– LOVE WILL TEAR US APART –
(Joy Division classic)

– ATMOSPHERE –
(Joy Division classic – with awesome soul voice Rowetta)

TEMPTATION –
(New Order)

– ARIES –
(A superb song by Gorillaz with Hooky here on vocals instead of
Damon Albarn. It’s on their new Song Machine album)
