22 October 2021

Info: Last year’s Tweedy solo album ‘Love Is King‘ gets
a special treatment. A two cd set with the original album
and one with live versions of the tracks and some covers
lands on 10 December and a vinyl release comes in 2022.

First taster is a cover of a Neil Young song called The Old Country Waltz
The opener from his grand 1977 album American Stars ‘N Bars (with classic
Like A Hurricane on it).

Sing it, Jeff…

Yep, the original wins…

New Album By NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE In December

14 October 2021

Two years after Colorado work-alcoholic Neil Young & Crazy Horse
have another LP canned called Barn. Out 12 December.

Young: “We are so happy to be back in the barn. A barn built to replicate
the 1850s barn that had collapsed in exactly the same place, high in the
mountains of Colorado.”

You can hear lead-single Song Of Seasons but there’s a condition.

You need to subscribe to his website. Why Neil? Does you’re money-orientated
marketing team wants to build a database with our ID info? Sounds like the usual enterprise technique to sell their products in the end as your subscription form
indicates. Way to go, Neil. Rockin’ in the free world? I don’t think so. Of course, you
just do it or you don’t and countless artists use ordinary sales tricks, but that’s not
an excuse, Mister Young. Although I’m a vivid fan I can’t be bothered to hear the
new song under these circumstances.

Welcome to the Neil Young enterprise…

‘YOUNG SHAKESPEARE’ – Another NEIL YOUNG Live LP? Yes And It’s A Stellar One

28 March 2021

What: A live longplayer and concert film recorded/shot in 1971,
three days after that other live document Live At Massey Hall 1971,
during the Journey Through The Past solo tour.
Released: 26 March 2021

Louder Than War says: “Young Shakespeare is the latest gem to be unearthed
from his vaults: a pristine live recording of Young at his simplest and purest – just
his voice, his acoustic guitar and his harmonica (and occasionally at the piano),
recorded on his Journey Through The Past solo tour in early 1971. It’s spellbinding…
Everything on this recording, it’s just perfect.”

Full review here. Score: 10/10.

Turn Up The Volume says: Another Neil Young live album, I hear you say?
Yep, the Canadian troubadour still is delving deep in his basement, and as
long as he comes up with treasures like this I’m all ears. This heart-warming
solo performance – acoustic guitar and voice – including stupendous live
versions of some of his best ballads ever (Old Man, Helpless, The Needle
And The Damage Done, Down By The River
) is just s-t-e-l-l-a-r. Fact!

Clips for two of the LP’s 12 humdingers…

Still Rockin’ In The Free World – Another NEIL YOUNG Live Album ‘WAY DOWN IN THE RUST BUCKET’ Out Now

18 March 2021

Living legend NEIL YOUNG released another live album and concert film, titled
WAY DOWN IN THE RUST BUCKET a few weeks ago. From a 1990 concert with
Crazy Horse in Santa Cruz, California after his 18th LP Ragged Glory appeared.

Who needs another Neil Young live longplayer? Well nobody, but as he is one of
my all-time favorite singer/songwriters/rockers in the free world, it’s fun to hear
a set of great songs played live – at a high-quality level – for the first time.

Pitchfork says: “This joyous live document flips the energy of 1991’s Weld on its head, swapping out incendiary arena rockers for oddball picks and warm, woolly vibes… For a
dirty, grungy rock’n’roll band, there’s no better place to hold communion than the local
pub, where the separation between artist and audience can be so thin, it may as well be nonexistent. Maybe that’s why Way Down in the Rust Bucket feels so transcendent:
It captures the world’s greatest bar band in their spiritual home.”

Full review here. Score: 8/10.

The special issue contains a 4xLP box set, a 2xCD set and a deluxe edition
box set, with the latter format including a DVD, four LPs, and two CDS.
A digital release is also coming via the official Neil Young Archives site.

Picture This!

Looks like longtime running British music magazine UNCUT – we’re ‘the spiritual home
of great rock ‘n’ roll’
– is actually on a… roll. We have two more days to go in 2020 and
the mag just dropped its February 2021 edition. Well, well.

… and a Happy New Year to you too, Neil

HAPPY 75 To The Living Country And Rock Legend NEIL YOUNG!

12 November 2020

NEIL PERCIVAL YOUNG was born on 12 November 1945 in Toronto, Canada.

Happy 75 to a living legend with the rock ‘n’ roll heart of a young gunslinger.
He released about a thousand albums since 1963. He worked solo, he regularly
recorded with his electrifying pals Crazy Horse and played a couple of years,
a long time ago, with three other memorable voices, Crosby Stills & Nash
and with Buffalo Springfield.

And he’s not finished yet. His Archives seem to be inexhaustible. And if it wasn’t
for the nasty pandemic, he was definitely on a stage somewhere on the planet.

And of course, here at Turn Up The Volume‘s home, it’s also a Neil Young Day.
With three of my favorite albums: Tonight’s The Night (1975), On The Beach (1974)
and Sleeps With Angels (1994)…
