JOE STRUMMER – Solo Retrospective ‘ASSEMBLY’ Out Now!

26 March 2021

Sure, the late great punk icon JOE STRUMMER (21 August 1952 – 22 December 2002)
was the outspoken, charismatic frontman of the last gang in town THE CLASH, but not everybody knows or remembers his solo career, with several great LPs and lots of collaborations with other artists.

Dark Horse Records, the label that the late Beatle George Harrison started
in 1974 and is run now by his son Dhani recognized the timeless value of
Joe solo, dived into his archives which resulted into a glorious retrospective
LP, out today.

The 16-track album includes a never-before-heard acoustic home recording of
Junco Partner’ and live versions of The Clash classics ‘I Fought The Law’ and ‘Rudie
Can’t Fail’
with his band the Mescaleros. Great document! Unforgettable legend!

In Memory Of A Genuine Artist… JOE STRUMMER

Daily fuel to load your sonic batteries…

22 December 2019

JOE STRUMMER died, only 50, on 22 December 2002, 17 years ago today. He was a genuine artist. A tremendously gifted and committed musician and a social human
being with his heart and soul and mouth on the right place.

I chose his most gripping Bob Marley cover of ‘REDEMPTION SONG‘ to commemorate
the passing of this legend because if he had still been alive today Strummer would have definitely protested with razor-sharp words and challenging music against the dramatic loss of human solidarity and the rise of dangerous, narcissistic political leaders as we experience for some years now. His honest and outspoken voice is sadly missed. Rest
in peace, rest in freedom…

Happy Birthday To The Late Great JOE STRUMMER!…

John Graham Mellor better know as JOE STRUMMER was born in Ankara, Turkey on
21 August 1952. He would have turned 66 today. Unfortunately the iconic musician died suddenly on 22 December 2002 in his home at Broomfield in Somerset, England, following an undiagnosed heart defect. He was only 50. The world knows him best, of course, as the tremendously passionate frontman of legendary punk gang THE CLASH who turned into
a multifaceted, challenging and plain-spoken rock band over the years and was often lauded at the time as ‘the only band that matters’.
,
The great late artist’s work outside of The Clash will be released in a new compilation, entitled JOE STRUMMER 001, featuring rare and unreleased recordings as a solo artist,
as a member of his 101ers and Mescaleros and the first recordings he made post-Clash with former bandmate Mick Jones. The record, in a variety of formats will be out next month. The cover of the compilation is taken from Joe’s 1990 Californian driver’s license.

Ahead of its release here’s a track called LONDON IS BURNING, an alternate version
of Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros’ song BURNIN STREET
