14 June 2021

TOYAH, her husband/soulmate/King Crimson legend ROBERT FRIPP
and their friend Sydney took a couple of weeks off from entertaining
thousands of us with their comical Sunday Lunch Cover Sessions on
YouTube. But their back now with their kitchen craziness.

The kitchen trio are back having traveled the world and the seven seas.
Don’t miss this one, sure to provide sweet dreams.”
said Toyah before
impersonating Eurythmics.

Let’s start the show…

Psycho Killers BLACK MIDI Cover TALKIG HEADS

7 June 2021

It’s only a week since London’s young, experimental noise explorers
BLACK MIDI unleashed their second album Calvacade. A jaw-dropping
weirdo one.

And they’re already back with a number of exclusive flexi discs
with covers of King Crimson, Captain Beefheart, Prince, Taylor Swift
and Talking Heads.

I go for their Psycho Killer cover. A classic that suits them like a glove…

MOBY And Wonderful Voice MINDY JONES Cover Hero DAVID BOWIE

2 June 2021

=

MOBY released new album Reprise a few days ago. It features
orchestral and acoustic arrangements of songs from the past,
with the Budapest Art Orchestra, a string quartet, along with
several guest artists.

The record also includes a notable cover of
David Bowie‘s 24 Karat classic ‘Heroes.’

Moby: “‘Heroes’ was one of the first records (well, cassettes) I ever
bought, and I still think it’s the most beautiful song ever written.”

With the wonderful and soulful voice of Mindy Jones, Moby strips
the song and the pace down, let it float like a cloud in the sky, with
a mellow piano upfront and a gripping, symphonic finale. A vocal
and musical beauty!

I know, nobody can match Bowie‘s masterstroke
performance of ‘Heroes’ but this interpretation
gives me goosebumps.

THE BLACK KEYS Let The Guitar Slide On Their ‘GOING DOWN SOUTH’ Cover

4 May 2021

THE BLACK KEYS, the most famous blues-rock tandem, for the past few
years – before them the White Stripes ruled the world – go back to the roots
that inspired their sound and spirit. They canned an album of covers, titled
DELTA KREAM, out next month, 14 May. More info here

It’s a collection honoring their heroes of the Mississippi Hill Country Blues.
John Lee Hooker, Big Joe Williams, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Junior Kimbrough
and Ranie Burnette
.

One of the pearls is The Keys version of Going Down South by R.L. Burnside.

Let that guitar slide…

TOYAH And ROBERT FRIPP Bubble On In Their Bubble With HAWKIND Classic ‘SILVER MACHINE’

26 April 2021

TOYAH and helpmate ROBERT FRIPP keep on bubbling in their
home bubble. Their weekly Sunday Lunch cover sessions (since
April 2020) are spreading on the Internet like a benign rock virus.

Yesterday they turned SILVERMACHINE, the 1972 classic
space rocker by British psych outlaws HAWKIND featuring
the late great Lemmy, upside down.

Let the bubbles fly Toyah…

Utterly Cool Bobby-Dazzler MILEY CYRUS Will Rock You

5 April 2021

Never mind the bollocks here’s utterly cool bobby-dazzler MILEY CYRUS

Yesterday she performed live at the Final Four 2021 NCAA Basket Tournament.

She picked two Queen killers, Don’t Stop Me Now and wham bam hammer
WE WILL ROCK. The latter impressed my ears and eyes the most. YEAH!

When she hits the stage she becomes the sexiest devil on this planet.
Hail hail rock ‘n’ roll! Hail Hail Miley!

She will rock you

A Moody Beauty – WAXAHATCHEE Covers BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN

31 March 2021

One of the most praised albums of 2020 was WAXAHATCHEE‘s
– born Katie Crutchfield – fifth longplayer SAINT CLOUD.

A deluxe edition of Saint Cloud is out now, including three covers. Lucinda Williams’
Fruits Of My Labor, Dolly Parton’s Light Of A Clear Blue Morning, and my favorite
(although I still like the original more), Bruce Springsteen’s Streets Of Philadelphia.
A song The Boss wrote for the 1993 movie Philadelphia. A moody beauty.

Amazing Grace – SARAH WALK With Goosebumps Version Of ‘NOTHING COMPARES 2 U’

24 March 2021

SARAH WALK is a Los Angeles based singer-songwriter with
a crystal voice balancing between chanteuses Angel Olsen and
Sharon Van Etten.

She recently shared an amazing version of global hit Nothing
Compares 2 U
written and recorded by the late great Prince
and made world-famous by Sinead O’Connor back in 1990.

Walk: “I didn’t want to get too inside the other versions that
already existed because I wanted to make sure I approached
it my own way.”

Her version is wholly affecting with an ongoing magnetic piano
touch, a heavy-hearted orchestration, and her goosebumps
voice. Mesmeric rendition!
