22 July 2021

The troubadour celebrated his 80th birthday this year.
Active: Since 1961, yes, 60 (!) years / 39 studio albums (so far)

Album: (Take a deep breath) BOB DYLAN: SPRINGTIME
IN NEW YORK – The Bootleg Series 1980-1985

Info: The latest chapter in Columbia/Legacy’s highly acclaimed Bob Dylan Bootleg
revisits an often-forgotten, rich vein in Dylan’s vast and complex catalog, shining fresh light on the provocative new musical directions Dylan was taking as a songwriter
and a recording artist from 1980 through 1985.

In the early 1980s, while the music industry was grappling with the arrival of new trends and technology, from MTV to compact discs to digital recording, Bob Dylan was writing
and recording new songs for a new decade, creating an essential new chapter in his studio catalog. Bob Dylan – Springtime In New York (1980-1985) celebrates the rich creative period surrounding Dylan’s albums Shot Of Love (1981), Infidels, and Empire Burlesque with previously unreleased outtakes, alternate takes, rehearsal recordings, live performances, and more.

Content: Deluxe 5-CD package, also available in 2-CD and 2-LP highlight editions, will feature 54 previously unreleased recordings, including outtakes, rehearsal recordings,
and live performances from Dylan’s early-’80s albums Shot Of Love, Infidels, and Empire Burlesque.

Star-Studded VELVET UNDERGROUND Tribute Album In September

16 July 2021

What: A star-studded (see tracklist below) tribute to iconic band
The Velvet Underground
, and more specific to their 1967
masterpiece debut LP.

Release: 24 September via Verve Records

Producer: Hal Willner, a longtime Saturday Night Live co-operator. He passed away last year due to complications from COVID-19 at the age of, only, 64. He had just finished working on an all-star T. Rex tribute LP (AngelHeadedHipster came out last September). Furthermore, he was also the driving force behind this VU tribute longplayer.

Here’s the first taster with Kurt Vile covering track 5
Run Run Run. Pretty cool version. Good job, Kurt.

Coming Soon… New Album By The Swedish Residents ‘GOAT’

7 July 2021

Band: GOAT
Who: Formed in 2012, the experimental band’s anonymous members
claimed to hail from the remote and cursed village of Korpilombo in northern
, where inhabitants had for centuries been devoted to a form of voodoo
introduced by a traveling witch doctor – there was no one else on earth quite
like them. They have delivered 3 studio albums so far.

New album: HEADSOUP
Info: A globetrotting acid trip of an album, collecting rarities spanning
the band’s career – standalone singles, B-sides and two brand new tracks.

Out: 27th August 2021 via Rocket Recordings
Order info: here

These out-of-this-world voodoo priests remind me of those other weirdos,
Louisiana-based The Residents as both bands wear masks since day 1, and
we have no clue who they really are. But that’s actually the only similarity as
The Residents are a one-eyeball-prog-rock-opera ensemble who is totally
unpredictable but harmless, whereas GOAT is a mind-bewitching psych-o-delic
tribe who put a spell on you and you never know what happens next. Spooky!

Ahead of Headsoup comes new single Queen Of The Underground. A puzzling-electrifying trance groove moving like a vicious snake climbing out of its basket.
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard will love this to death.

Be ready

I still love you, Bonnie (photo by Turn Up The Volume)

To get in the right mood, the band shared a psychedelia-colored
video clip for Sanitarium Blues, one of the album’s highlights.

Bonnie Bloomgarden about the song…

“When I was a kid, I ended up in a mental institution after trying to finish my life!
I eventually found out that I am bipolar and extremely empathetic. Life just got too intense/scary to know how to deal with alone! I didn’t know how to get help or that
help would work… This song is about my stay at the institution! The combination of
stuff I do that is currently keeping me alive/balanced is taking antidepressants,
walking a lot, meditating, therapy, plant medicine, space from humans, and my dog.”
