Cast Of Stars Does Great Job On VELVET UNDERGROUND Tribute Album

26 September 2021

Album: I’LL BE YOUR MIRROR: A Tribute To The Velvet Underground

What: A cast of stars honor iconic band The Velvet Underground,
and more specific their debut masterpiece LP of 1967.

Released: 24 September 2021 via Verve Records

This was the promo trailer

Producer: Hal Willner, a longtime Saturday Night Live co-operator. He passed away last year due to complications from COVID-19 at the age of, only, 64. He had just finished working on an all-star T. Rex tribute LP (AngelHeadedHipster came out last September). Furthermore, he was also the driving force behind this VU tribute longplayer.

Turn Up The Volume: I’m always suspicious about tribute albums, certainly when the
celebrated album was/is a masterpiece of which you know every original chord, every
line, every vocal, every twist and turn, every everything, which was/is the case here with VU’s debut longplayer. But (you felt ‘but’ coming) here are several top performances (I’ll
let you choose for yourselves), although you can’t beat the original, nobody can and
never will.

Tracklist

1. Michael Stipe – “Sunday Morning”
2. Matt Berninger – “I’m Waiting For The Man”
3. Sharon Van Etten – “Femme Fatale” (Feat. Angel Olsen)
