Earthquake in AMSTERDAM – Here’s One Of The Maddest Live Bands On The Planet… COCAINE PISS

Yesterday (Friday 30 December) I decided last minute to drive to Amsterdam (2 1/2 drive)
to see COCAINE PISS (again). One of this year’s most spectacular and maddest live bands. They played there as part of a mini indoor festival in the legendary Paradiso venue and I returned early this morning, after four hours of sleep, to attend a family lunch back home in Belgium. Like my wife always says: ‘you feel nervous when things go normal‘. It was another mind-boggling experience but I’m actually too tired to write a decent review and I need to join a New Year’s Eve diner in a couple of hours. But for you out there who never heard of this earthshaking four-piece you can check my review of their far-out performance in Brussels earlier this month here.  And with this clip you surely will get an idea of their smashing thunder…

But before leaving you, and the year 2016, here are some of my pics of yesterday’s explosion in the small upper hall of Paradiso with frontwoman Aurélie Poppins doing
what she does best… going totally mental! Hell Bloody Hell! Yeah..

The Spanish Art Of How To Party 2016 Into Oblivian – Here Are… THE PARROTS & HINDS

Well, 2016 was a great year for LOUD & CLEAR alternative and underground music getting the attention it deserved, on the other hand 2016 was a historic shit year for politics. As the late legendary Ian Dury once sung ‘The Lunatics Have Taken Over the Asylum’. Whatever. Right here, right now it’s time to dance 2016 to hell and these two exciting Spanish garage pop punk bands know the right tricks to make it all happen. Trust me, I saw them both playing live this year. They are party experts! Hiha! Eviva España! Fill the glasses…

The Song That Made Me Cry In 2016 – Here’s LOADED by RICH GIRLS…

Now and then we all need captivating songs to cry to. Harrowing melancholy coming straight from a sorrowful heart is what I cherish in moments of sadness and I had some this year,  privately (my father died) and more in general (the loss of human solidarity). RICH GIRLS is one of those bands you want to have close by when tristesse haunts you. Led by songwriter and endearing voice Luisa Black they released a gripping 5-track EP, titled Love Is The Dealer last September. Five tender pearls to soundtrack gloominess filled twilights. For me, opener LOADED was the track that colored the whole picture just perfectly. Imagine walking into a dim bar, late at night, alone and heavy-hearted. And while ordering your next drink the radio plays some forgotten song, Brenda Lee’s comin’ on strong.  Here’s my favorite track of several nights in 2016…

Slow to begin
since it’s a sin
I only want to see you

slow to pretend
only a friend
Ii only want to see you

love is the dealer
love is the drug
love is the dealer
love is the loaded gun

slow to begin
it only makes it
it only makes it
to be the prick

drunk on the phone
the whole night before
I only want to see you

love is the dealer
love is the drug
love is the dealer
love is the loaded gun

so shoot baby
shoot baby
shoot aim it
shoot aim
it’s too late yeah
too late yeah

love is the dealer
love is the drug
love is needle
love is damage done

done done…

To Hell With Blue Mondays – Here Are… KINGS OF LEON

Weekly firework to splinter Blue Mondays into a thousand pieces…

In 2003, long before they became today’s clean shaved boys-band, KINGS OF LEON
kicked ass with their irresistible stream of swirling Southern Americana Rock killers on
debut album Youth & Young Manhood. Here’s MOLLY’S CHAMBERS, one of their rollin’ slam dunks on that smoking LP, that will make you forget that you ate and drunk too much yesterday and that this year’s Second Day of Christmas is a bloody Monday…

THE POP GROUP – Intriguing New Video For Cruel Brittania Single ‘LITTLE TOWN’…

26 December 2016

LITTLE TOWN is the 2nd single from cutting new Honeymoon On Mars album by the former late 70s/early 80s frantic Bristol funksters THE POP GROUP. Only one of the few bands that really has, after reuniting many years after they first formed, something challenging, highly inspiring and compellingly perspicacious to say in caustic words
and in absorbing sound. Douglas Hart directed the clip and visualized optimally the
song’s content: “The video attempts to capture the feel of towns beyond the big metropolises. Towns that suffer most from the brutal post capital culture we live in now.” The band’s riveting frontman and biting voice Mark Stewart added: “Doug has documented Cruel Britannia, the hidden truly frightening little Britain. Perhaps the real battle for Britain has truly begun.” Seems like we’ll have a post-Brexit walk here…
